Eventbrite - Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter Spring Break Camp 2017

Year Two: More Adventure, More Discoveries!
Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter is excited to bring back Spring Break Camp by popular demand from kids and parents! Campers can register for individual days of camp, or the whole week, to ensure an exciting and educational week off from school!

This year Spring Break Camp is open to youth currently enrolled in 1st through 5th grades. Camp begins each morning at 9 am and ends at 4 pm (drop off begins at 8:45 am. We are not able to currently offer late pick up). Two snacks will be provided (one in the morning and one in the afternoon), but campers should bring their own lunch and reusable water bottle each day!

    April 10
Journey to the Center of the Earth:  Campers will explore the layers of the Earth below and above the surface through a variety of experiments, activities, and art.  Learn about how the tectonic plates of the Earth move, experiment with volcanoes, build rockets, and try cracking open geodes.
    April 11
Around the World:  Campers will learn more about the world beyond where they live. Make your own story necklace, clean up a fish’s habitat, and more.  Explore maps, art, and science to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to become geo-literate environmental stewards.
    April 12
Small Wonders:  In conjunction with our traveling exhibit Small Wonders, campers will learn all about insects, germs, and more.  Campers will try their hand at making their own microscope slides, catch and identify insects on the preserve, and play games to learn about the human body’s response to invaders.
    April 13
Swaner Stories:  Campers will learn about the history of the Swaner Preserve through an anthropology lens.  Practice your scientist skills through an archaeological “dig”, learn about how anthropologists excavate sites through your own gelatin excavation, piece together pottery for examination, and more!  Campers will play an augmented reality game to get moving, create a time capsule to share the importance of the Swaner Preserve with future campers, and more!
    April 14
Creature Scene Investigators:  Campers will become detectives to learn more about the animals that call the Swaner Preserve home.  Learn more about tracks, investigate a nature “crime scene” and use clues to figure out what happened, and try out a technology based form of treasure hunting—geocaching!

The cost of each camp is $55 per day. This fee helps to cover the cost of supplies for activities, any special guest visitors, our staff’s time planning and facilitating camp, snacks, facility expenses, and more.

If you register for all 5 days of spring break camp, use the code “fullweek” during registration to receive 20% off the cost of camp tuition.

Members of Swaner receive a 10% discount on camp registration fees. Click here for more information on how to become a member of Swaner. Member discount codes will be given during registration. You must have a family membership in order to qualify for the Swaner member discount.

To check the status of your membership, contact our Development Director, Peregrine Bosler at 435-797-8939 or peregrine.bosler@usu.edu.

If you cancel more than 2 weeks before the day of camp, you will be refunded minus a 25% fee.  If you cancel less than 2 weeks before the day of camp, we will refund you (minus the 25% fee mentioned above) only if we can fill your spot from the waitlist.  If we cannot fill your spot, you will not be refunded.
